The opening show of the 2015 season.
Presenting the work of five artists who all share a passion for landscape painting
Martin Laurance (curator)
Each artist has an individual approach and methods, from the textured mixed media paintings of Martin Laurance, who draws inspiration directly from the coast, moorland and hills, to Sarah Cannell's vibrant and colourful works that result from her time spent throughout the seasons in the wilds of the South Norfolk marshes.
Tor Falcon immerses herself in the landscape so that her pastel drawings can explore, discover and reflect the essential elements of the place she's in, with it's underlying geology, weather, rhythm, and repeating patterns.
John Midgley approaches his oil paintings with a constant searching for Cezanne's 'sensation originale', making his work vital and personal, a quest that searches out the inherent abstract quality of landscape; particularly man-made structures that define and bisect natural forms.
John Bardell's landscapes are often large scale, in charcoal or oils, giving a very real sense of 'being out there'.
